Battle of the Warm Chocolate Cakes
The verdict is out!
Chocolate lovers, listen up!
Tried and tested at popular haunts around town for the best of this yummy dessert. Here's the outcome judging from my tastebuds...
Worst of the Best: Coffee Club - Looks good but lacks substance!
Overrated: Il Lido's "soffiato al cioccolato con crema inglese e gelato al cioccolato bianco & caffé" described in English simply as "molten lava dark chocolate cake with white chocolate & coffee gelato".
This one beats Coffee Club's presentation hands down but don't be fooled by the facade. Almost there but doesn't quite make it. Like the saying goes, "Never judge a book by its cover!"

Acceptable: Bakerzin's "warm chocolate cake". This was the 1st I tried of all the warm chocolate cakes. It is certainly a delight the first time you try it. At S$ 9.80, it may be a little pricey but certainly recommended at least once in your lifetime. Standards have dropped though lately, with the chocolate cake over-baked and a little too hard on the outside.
Yummy...: Do try the "warm valrhona chocolate cake with vanilla ice cream" @ Hotel 1929's Restaurant Ember. Certainly no complaints at this restaurant (except for the price maybe), but certainly worth paying for. Size is just enough for you to come back craving for more!
And the Best Of The Best Most Value For Money Yet Taste Is Not Compromised award goes to...:
Menotti!!! Honestly, I cannot recall the name of this wonderfully divine creation. All I remember is that it goes by some fancy Italian name. The warm chocolate that oozes out of the circular cup-liked cake will send tingling sensations down your spine. Not too sweet as the rest may be, it contains just the right mixture of bitter-sweet chocolate taste and yummy melt in your mouth ice cream (duhh!). @ only S$5.50, you can always get a 2nd serving without hurting your pocket. Combine with Vittoria coffee & you get that "I'm in Sydney sipping coffee along George Street" kinda feeling if you know what I mean....
