Ah ih uh...
It has been a super hectic week with my essays due, haven't had time to enjoy the company of my guests, my mind has been bogged down by my taxation law essay. Just managed to realign my messed up blogsite, and removed a malicious spyware on my beloved laptop, who's been extremely loyal to me. Will be having my much needed break tomorrow, maybe stone by the opera house...

Aaaaaahhhhhhhh... finally I'm done with my taxation law essay... what a boring subject. Don't think I've done a good job, it was rather plain and descriptive, and lacking in research... yeah I know it lacked substance, was just beating aroung the Australian bush... Anyway... what's up people??? I know I've been silent for a while... what's the news in Singapore with our new Prime Minister??? The Sydney Morning Herald had two articles on Singapore's transfer of power. One about Goh Chok Tong with a picture of him, and the other about PM Lee with a picture of him (they quoted him as "Singapore's Son", with reference to him being the son of Singapore's modern architect - SM Lee) & together they are known as.... drum roll... THE HOLY TRINITY!!! FATHER, SON & THE HOLY GOH!!!! MUAHAHAAHAHAHAHAH... funny lah... I thought I had lots of stories to share but I'm brain-drained as for now... Bet you I will have more stories to tell this weekend... muahahahahah, ok lah goodnight... and how was the birthday celebrations??? Watched it via the internet... dah lama tak dengar Majulah Singapura, stood still for a moment in my room, reminiscing the daily anthem singing days in ACS... muahahahha... bubbye!!!
The Tudung Issue Revisited
It is just unfortunate that in a multi-cultural society and developed nation like Singapore, there are still many educated individuals who cannot differentiate religion and modernity. These people, sadly, are naive, trapped and enclosed within their own wishful boundaries of modern ideology.
Let me state for a fact, that a Muslim woman who puts on the tudung does not reflect backward mentality & that a Muslim woman who does not wear the tudung does not necessarily reflect modernity.
I am not trying to defend the covered Muslim women just because I am a fellow Muslim, but rather, I am trying to prove the backward ideology behind such thinking of equating appearance to mentality. As a matter of fact, my immediate family does not put on the tudung, and neither does my loved one.
Modernity stems from one's point of reference. If you determine the Westerners as your point of reference to modernity, then naturally your conclusion will be that covered Muslim women are backwards. Why? Because you associate the non-tudung Western women to the bustling Western economy ie. modernity.
Try shifting that point of reference to developed Muslim countries whose top surgeons, doctors, lawyers, etc do put on the tudung. Then maybe and hopefully the light will shine and you will be able to see that modernity does not equal to no-tudung.
Being oblivious to the root of the matter is inexcusable. Living in a country like Singapore, you should be brave enough to step outside your comfort zone and challenge your very own idealogies. If Western countries such as Australia can accept the tudung - their people acknowledging that what one wears does not reflect one's mentality as well as intellectual capabilities, then why can't some Singaporeans be more opened to such opinions??? I do not mean to be disrespectful but the very fact that an educated person cannot distinguish appearance, intellectual ability & mentality reflects the lack of 'modernity' in one's self.
Maybe the conclusion that you came up with stems from the fact that the Malay-Muslim community has not been very successful in terms of chasing material wealth. Hence our lack of ability to accomplish and accommodate the exchange-values of the capitalist system underlines your conclusion. I do not blame you for that, I partially agree. The Malay-Muslim community itself need to take partial responsibility.
To my fellow brothers & sisters, I sincerely encourage myself and you to strive for the best, and put ourselves in a position where others do not question our abilities. For only with power and respect can we bring about weighted changes to the unacceptable perceptions about our very own people, so that we will be able to educate the 'educated & modern' that the tudung does not equal to being backward and that wearing it can still mean success and modernity...
May Allah guide us.
Guess who's making a comeback???
Yesterday I made more than 50 people laugh, big laughs. Even though I was the last presenter of the day, I managed to keep the audience glued to their seats. Made some funny comments while doing a law presentation during a seminar, I guess that made my day, to be able to add some joy & laughter to an otherwise boring seminar...
Uni ended at 6.30pm, had chips at the UniBar with Poji and then proceeded to watch the UniMovies. They were screening Day After Tomorrow (which I thought was gonna be a James Bond movie) and Out Of Time.
You know what, I think I'm gonna sign out as a different name from now on. That email addy made famous by the other me, the name that got many of you baffled and clueless a few years back. Ok I shall do that from now on...!
Today
The wind & rain was at work today - real hard... Knocking on our windows, doors and roof non-stop. Even took out our energy supply. There was a blackout along our whole street. Had no power since 7.45pm till about 9pm. It was darkness. Couldn't study coz there was no light, couldn't cook coz there was no heat on the stove, couldn't bathe coz there was no heater, couldn't get online coz there was no power to switch on my laptop, couldn't watch TV, couldn't do anything, basically. So me and Poji, we both just spread ourselves in our respective beds and cuddled under the sheets. But then again, there was no electric blanket to keep us warm... sigh. This new economy of technological innovations is making us humans dependent even to the very minute of stuffs, such that when the system breaks down, we all become paralysed with regards to our activities. Lucky I didn't have any essays due tomorrow...
Anyway for dinner had:
(1)nachos with salsa sauce and mozarella cheese,
(2)broccoli and mushroom stir-fried with oyster sauce, soy sauce, sambal oelek, sesame seed oil, garlic, pepper and today's theme sauce - thai green curry, and
(3)thai green curry sauce for dipping the nachos.
Sounds like a weird combination ain't it??? Yeah... fusion food...
No Title Entry
This is the 3rd week of uni. Back to gettin busy with lectures, seminars, tutorials, essays, assignments, presentations... can't wait for this to be over. Am eager to be back in Singapore. Dunno wat to say, mind is full of school stuff to think about... Nitez...
I live alone Dear Allah, stay by my side In all my daily needs, be thou my guide... Grant me good health, for that indeed I pray To carry on my work from day to day... Keep pure my mind, my thoughts, my every deed Let me be kind, unselfish in my neighbour's need... Spare me from fire, from flood, malicious tongues, From thieves, from fear and evil ones... If sickness or an accident befall, Then humbly Allah, I pray, hear thou my call... And when I am feeling low, Or in despair, Lift up my heart and help me in my prayer... I live alone, Dear Allah, yet have no fear, Because I feel your presence ever near...
