Home Alone

Yes indeed, with the exception of my maid, I'm all home alone. No family, no girlfriend. And all these when I'm not working over the weekend! Sienz. Well, more time for myself. Time to catch up on my readings, my trades, maybe watch some dvds, go to the gym... Everybody's gone for a holiday... time to rest my tired body... bought a large pack of kerepek ubi (my favourite snack since young!) and cheezels for me to munch over my lazy weekend. Yes, its time to indulge in couch potato activities over this weekend. Talk abt training for the ironman!

Yes, the excitement for the Standard Chartered Marathon (Singapore) is all over. Trained for it but due to unforeseen circumstances, team 'Slackers' (as we registered ourselves) did not even make it to the starting line. Known as the Greatest Race On Earth (GROE) and billed as the 'World Cup of Marathon Running', this is a gruelling marathon series over four cities, inviting the top runners from around the world. Do check the link to know more: http://www.thegreatestraceonearth.com

So up next is the Standard Chartered Ironman Challenge. We've began training for it and so far I've managed to add an additional lap in every session. Struggled when we first started training, but fitness is improving rather well. Yes, the branch camarederie is good, the synergy is congruent and I'm enjoying myself. Although, I wonder how I'll ever complete the swimming portion of the triathlon. I've never been a swimmer, even though I came from a school that produces the nation's best swimming talents. People who've seen me swim swears that I swim like a turtle! With my head sticking out of the pool... YeaH! The penyu is gonna swim in the triathlon, don't pray pray.

I have to give my thumbs up to StanChart as an exemplary employer. Apart from the continuous healthy lifestyle being promoted, there are so many community activities being carried out that deserves mention. One, for example, is the Seeing is Believing program: http://www.seeingisbelieving.org.uk/ This is an ongoing worldwide community project which the bank embarks on to bring sight to millions of blind people worldwide. Our ambassador for the StanChart marathon, Mr Henry Wanyoike, is himself, a blind marathon runner, do read more @ http://www.seeingisbelieving.org.uk/fundraise/features.asp

In addition, there is also the Living with HIV program: http://www.standardchartered.com/corporateresponsibility/com_living.html

Another news, following MAS's amendment to the Banking Act at the end of September, which allowed banks here to offer murabaha, StanChart is the first bank in Singapore to have inked the Islamic Financing deal. Derived from the Arabic word ribhun that means an agreed upon profit, murabaha is commonly used as short-term financing and in trade finance. See http://business-times.asia1.com.sg/sub/news/story/0,4574,179396,00.html I have always been interested in Islamic banking and I hope with this I have a direction to move towards in the near future within this bank.

Well, to end this long story, I decided to eat my cheezels as I was writing this, and in it was a chicken mcnugget-like chunk instead of the normal ring type. It looked yummy and crunchy enuff, so I bit into it and it was a whole piece of salty cheese which was not so crunchy after all. Rather soft, yucks! Blek! Wekk!

So that's the end of the Home Alone movie...

I live alone Dear Allah, stay by my side In all my daily needs, be thou my guide... Grant me good health, for that indeed I pray To carry on my work from day to day... Keep pure my mind, my thoughts, my every deed Let me be kind, unselfish in my neighbour's need... Spare me from fire, from flood, malicious tongues, From thieves, from fear and evil ones... If sickness or an accident befall, Then humbly Allah, I pray, hear thou my call... And when I am feeling low, Or in despair, Lift up my heart and help me in my prayer... I live alone, Dear Allah, yet have no fear, Because I feel your presence ever near...

Today's Quote

I've wed not whom I can live with. I did whom I can't live without.
